ONEP pushes forward EPI Thailand at the local level, integrating three key pillars to elevate the quality of life and environmental standards in Thailand.

          ONEP is advancing the implementation of the Environmental Performance Index in the context of Thailand (EPI Thailand) at the local level in a concrete manner. This effort is anchored on three key pillars: utilizing EPI Thailand data as a basis for decision-making, engaging the education sector as a primary driving force, and fostering win-win collaboration among all sectors, to sustainably enhance Thailand’s environmental quality and its environmental performance index.

          On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Ms. Kanda Chookaew, Deputy Secretary General of Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP), opened the national meeting “Driving the Environmental Performance Index in the Context of Thailand (Envi Driven by EPI Thailand)” under the project to elevate the environmental performance index towards environmental governance. Ms. Montana Siriwan, Director of Strategy and Planning Division, presented the report and background of the project. The meeting was attended online by participants from both the central and regional levels, totaling over 250 participants.

          The meeting aims to foster understanding of “EPI Thailand” as a tool to drive national development, to highlight urgent environmental issues under the theme “Turning Data into Power, Making the World Sustainable: Let’s Go Green with Data,” in order to help policymakers grasp the overall picture, strengths, and areas needing further development. It acts like a “remote control,” providing clearer direction for the country’s environmental policies, based on the principle of a “Win-Win Situation,” with the education sector playing a key role as a primary partner in local-level implementation. The development of model trainers (Train the Trainer) for the education sector and local agencies serves as a mechanism for sustainability, leading to inter-agency integration and true systematic management.
